Japan is a place of deep craft skills and where the very contemporary meets the very traditional is such a way that they work in tandem with each other. On our Japan Textile Tour mixes all of this together and includes several textile/craft workshops, including one at Saori no Mori, the home of free style weaving. But another workshop was at a small, mountainous village in rural Okayama prefecture. We were welcomed into a lovely old schoolhouse which had looms and wood craft workshops for us to immerse ourselves in. The picturesque village housed permaculture gardens and a dedication to self sufficiency and art.
We also visit several master indigo master dyers and Kasuri artists in their studios, where you can see where they work, how they work and learn about the artists themselves.
